I create to feed my spirit and am influenced by my surroundings both close and far.  Agree with me or not, consistency of subject matter, media, and execution is not an aspect of my creations. My art is ever-changing and growing-I love it.  Currently my focus is on soft pastel painting.

Carolyn holds a B.F.A. and MAEd from the University of Nebraska at Kearney. She retired from the UNK Art Department adjunct faculty in 2016.

​

She has exhibited extensively in Nebraska and has been featured at the Governor’s Residence, Minden Opera House and Museum of Nebraska Art among others. Her artwork is included in the collections of the Museum of Nebraska Art, the Department of Art and Art History at UNK and the Minden Public Schools, as well as many private collectors.

Carolyn is a member and past president of the Kearney Artist Guild and also belongs to the Association of Nebraska Art Clubs.

Daniel Garringer’s connection to the earthy rural lifestyle has been a consistent influence on his artistic style. His paintings and drawings often depict themes that are based on his strong beliefs in absolutes and common shared experiences.  In the limited exhibition he as allowed himself, jurors have recognized his works with numerous honors.  Born in Nebraska City, he has been a lifelong resident of the State. 

During High School his Art Teacher Jack Shofstall introduced him to the works of Andrew Wyeth, which set in motion a lifetime admiration of the stories told by the weathered textures of ordinary objects. In 1980 he began pursuing a degree in Art Education. While at Kearney State College he worked under the supervision of exceptional professors like Jon Dinsmore, Elmer Holzricher, Jack Karraker, Keith Lowry, Larry Peterson, and Ray Schultz.

Upon completion of his course work, Garringer immediately started teaching Art in the Public Schools and in  2003 he completed a Masters Degree in Art Education.  In 2019, after 30 years of teaching Art, Garringer retired to devote more time to creating Art.

Kelsey Baxter was born and raised in Kearney, NE and credits her father Kevin for her love of art. Growing up, Kelsey would spend time with her dad, also an artist, in his studio watching him as he worked on his woodcarvings. She would accompany him to shows even when she was very little, and this exposure to art was very formative for her. Kelsey attended the University of Nebraska at Kearney (UNK) where she earned a Bachelor's in Studio Art. She works in all sorts of mediums, from oil painting, to drawing, to photography, to ceramics, to woodcarving and more. She currently still resides in Kearney. I am still fascinated by the process of making a piece of pottery on the wheel as I was in 1976 making my first piece. Taking that lump of clay and forming it into a shape or form is a tactile pleasure. I enjoy the chemistry of making the glazes, learning what the chemicals do, and how layering the glazes enhance or change the surface of the piece.

The majority of my work is functional, wheel-thrown stoneware. I like the fact that the piece will be part of someone's daily life, touched and used.

​

I continue to experiment and explore the endless possibilities the materials provide while clinging to the comfort of that usable object, the bowl.

​

Graduated December 1986 with a BAS in Art Education from Kearney State College.

Melissa Hartman is a native Nebraskan and a long-time Kearney resident.

She teaches graphic design & design software at the University of NE Kearney, 

and runs a freelance graphic design business. 

​

Her preferred media is acrylic on board, printmaking and watercolor. 

Melissa also creates original patterns and knits luxury yarn accessories.

Mark Hartman is a native Nebraskan and a long-time Kearney resident.

He is an associate professor of art at the University of NE Kearney.

His preferred media is acrylic on canvas, ink on paper, watercolor and

metal embossing. Mark also has a word-working shop and likes to make
his own frames.
