Susan Leise

I am still fascinated by the process of making a piece of pottery on the wheel as I was in 1976 making my first piece. Taking that lump of clay and forming it into a shape or form is a tactile pleasure. I enjoy the chemistry of making the glazes, learning what the chemicals do, and how layering the glazes enhance or change the surface of the piece.

The majority of my work is functional, wheel-thrown stoneware. I like the fact that the piece will be part of someone's daily life, touched and used.

I continue to experiment and explore the endless possibilities the materials provide while clinging to the comfort of that usable object, the bowl.

Graduated December 1986 with a BAS in Art Education from Kearney State College.
